Program:
The course aims to provide basic theoretical knowledge on archives and historical sources during theoretical frontal lessons. The course will also include a portion of lessons dedicated to teaching activities with a technical-operational profile. The laboratory will be dedicated to the study of the primary sources for the history of science preserved at the National Research Council and the historical documentation relating to the fight against Nazi-fascism during the period of occupation of the capital, preserved at the Historical Museum of Liberation.

Educational goals and expected learning outcomes:
A) Learning outcomes: Students will acquire elements of knowledge on the correct management and conservation of historical archives, knowledge on the management of archives as institutions of ordering and conservation of handed down material. By the laboratory, the course aims to provide students with the technical and methodological tools necessary to carry out archival research and carry out an archival intervention on historical sources.
B) Knowledge and understanding: The course provides the basic theoretical knowledge for historical research of primary sources in the traditional and multimedia fields.
C) Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to apply the methodologies and techniques acquired for the purposes of historical research for the development of texts that involve the consultation, use and citation of primary sources. They will be able to: apply a correct archive analysis methodology, • know how to find and use archival tools independently, be able to carry out the archival description of a collection using the IT tools illustrated in class. This knowledge will allow us to intervene in supporting the management, description and valorisation of the historical-documentary heritage.
D) Making judgements: Students will develop the ability to understand the complexity of the historical collections examined. They will also acquire the ability to plan an archival intervention on a historical collection.
E) Communication skills: Students will develop the analytical skills and critical mass necessary for the archival techniques used. Students will achieve the ability to transmit their knowledge correctly, rigorously and effectively at different levels, illustrating the work carried out in a study day organized at the institutions hosting the laboratories. Students will be able to present the results of their work using both traditional communication tools and multimedia ones.
F) Learning skills: Students will be able to rework the knowledge, methods and techniques acquired to operate in the archival field and in the creation of tools specific to archives in the historical phase.
Methods and criteria for verifying the learning:
The formal moment of verification is however represented by an oral examination. The verification. The examination includes the analysis and illustration of the product of the activities carried out in the laboratory..
Teaching methods:
The lessons will be divided into two parts: theoretical frontal lessons carried out at the University, technical laboratory lessons carried out at other institutions (Historical Museum of Liberation).
Attendance modalities:
Constant frequency of laboratory activities is suggested.Students will be attender if present at least 2/3 of the scheduled lessons.
